  • RICHMOND Montez Sweat Jersey , Va. (AP)Jordan Reed has two fewer bones and a whole lot of peace of mind.Toe soreness in offseason workouts more than a year ago became lingering pain that threw off everything for the Washington Redskins tight end. Overcompensation led to a hamstring injury that kept Reed off the field, and he never felt like himself even when he was able to play.So Reed went under the knife twice to have a sesamoid bone in each big toe removed. Reed now feels ”100 times better” and hopes his toe injuries are a thing of the past so he can get back to his form of 2015, when he had 87 catches for 952 yards and 11 touchdowns.”It’s definitely a relief,” Reed said Friday. ”Just having that nagging pain for two years was awful and now it’s gone, so it’s just a lot better.”Reed said toe fractures gave him little choice but to have the surgeries, one on his left foot in December and the other on the right in February. They’ve so far worked out far better than his decision to get a stem-cell injection in the summer of 2017 that aggravated his toe problem so much he couldn’t walk. That self-described ”poor decision” completely derailed Reed’s season, limiting him to 27 catches in six games. He tried orthotics in his shoes to ease the pain, but nothing worked, leading to an operation that’s more common for dancers and exceedingly rare for the general public.”That’s usually kind of like the last stop on the train,” said Mark Drakos, a foot and ankle surgeon at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. ”They’re very little bones. They’re about the size of like a Peanut M&M, so they’re very, very small. Most bones, if they break or they don’t heal, we’ll go in and fix them with plates and screws of if you break your ankle, we put it back together. These are so small that a lot of times we just take it out because it’s quicker. It’s a quicker recovery.”Reed is well past the usual eight-to-12-week recovery period and has looked sharp in individual and team drills early in camp. Just having him on the field again is a plus for the Redskins, who need the 28-year-old to create matchup problems for opposing defenses.”He is a unique guy at the tight end position that can do so many things: route-running with the ball in his hands after the catch,” new quarterback Alex Smith said. ”He is oftentimes the guy that it doesn’t really matter who’s lined up against him – linebacker, safety Dwayne Haskins Redskins Jersey , corner. He is a guy that I think has the skill set to win against all these positions.”Coach Jay Gruden, who early in camp a year ago didn’t think Reed’s toe injury would be a long-term concern, is hopeful now because, as he put it, ”I have to be.””I think he’s one of the top tight ends in the National Football League when healthy,” Gruden said. ”Last year, he tried to fight through a couple of those injuries in the offseason. He got them fixed, so hopefully we’ll put an end to all those foot and toe injury things and ankle. Jordan, he feels great right now, very optimistic about the way his body feels and now it’s our job to make sure we just progress him along at a good rate.”Gruden hopes to get Reed into a preseason game or two and have him 100 percent for the season opener against Arizona. On a team with a handful of players working back from injuries, Reed is taking a conservative approach as he balances restraint with the excitement of what he could do when finally healthy again.”Still working through that with the coaches and taking it slow,” he said. ”I’m just getting my body built back up. … I’m confident moving forward.”NOTES: Second-year LB Ryan Anderson left practice with back spasms and he’s considered day-to-day. A team spokesman said RB Rob Kelley’s departure was heat-related. … LB Zach Brown was a limited participant in team drills a day after straining the quadriceps muscle in his left thigh. … The team’s afternoon walkthrough was cut short by lightning. Unlike their regular practice facility in Ashburn, Virginia, outside Washington, the Redskins do not have an indoor bubble at their Richmond site.— As every day passes, it’s looking more and more like Jay Gruden will remain as head coach of the Redskins for 2019. What changes are made to his staff are still up in the air, however. One thing is for certain; the Redskins need help on both side of the football this off-season. With salary cap room projected to be pretty low, the team will likely have to count on their draft picks to play major roles in 2019...and beyond. Gruden, in a recent article by ESPN’s John Keim https://www.theredskinslockerroom.com/authentic-dwayne-haskins-jersey , was quoted in saying the following:So let’s break this down...As Gruden eluded to, and many feel the same way, one of the strengths of this team is the offensive and defensive lines. When healthy, these units can compete with anyone. We do need to find a starting left guard, but we can do so with a mid-round pick or a free agent signing. Before the injuries started piling up, this team was 6-3, and heading towards double-digit wins. The loss of Alex Smith deflated the team, and Jay mentioned that quarterback, going forward, is a bit scary. No one knows what Smith’s future holds - apparently not even the head coach, and I assume by Gruden’s comments that the team is not comfortable going into the season with Colt McCoy as the starter for any significant length of time. The other comment that also stood out is the need for “playmakers” on offense. I think every Redskins fan can agree that this team lacked a dynamic, go-to playmaker. Jay has said before that his offense runs through tight end Jordan Reed, but his availability is, and has always been, a major concern. The lack of offensive playmakers on this team was alarming, and needs to be addressed this off-season.Getting back a healthy Darrius Guice will be a big boost to an anemic offense. He has the ability to grind out yards between the tackles, but he can also turn the corner and take it to the house. He’s an under-rated receiver out of the backfield as well, and should excel in the Redskins screen game, and provide mismatches against opposing linebackers in the open field. Where the team really needs help is at wide receiver. Paul Richardson was brought in to give the unit a much-needed deep threat Womens Dwayne Haskins Jersey , but injuries once again stole part of his season. Jamison Crowder is a free agent, and it’s looking more and more like he’ll be able to test the market, and land himself a big contact somewhere other than Washington. Josh Doctson is a bust. Argue all you want, but it’s true. 2019 should be his last season in Burgundy and Gold, and that’s only because he’s still under an affordable rookie contract. He should be no better than a 3rd or 4th option next season. The rest of the unit is comprised of all un-proven players. The draft offers some very interesting receiver prospects, especially in round two. The Redskins would be wise to sign a veteran free agent, and look to the second round to find a true playmaker they can develop on the outside. The “playmakers on offense” comment can also be aimed at quarterback. With the uncertainty surrounding a return by Alex Smith, the team may be in need of a new signal caller. The draft is not very strong at the position this year, but Ohio State’s Dwayne Haskins, Duke’s Daniel Jones and Missouri’s Drew Lock are all expected to go in the first round. The Jaguars and Giants are two teams who may be looking to draft a quarterback this season, so it’s possible one of these signal callers could fall to pick number 15. Should that happen, and even if Alex Smith does end up returning, the Redskins could be tempted to jump at their next potential franchise quarterback. end class. The Redskins always have uncertainty surrounding Jordan Reed, and it’s very unlikely Vernon Davis returns next season. The roster is void of young, healthy playmakers at the position, and this could be the year to improve that talent with a higher draft pick - maybe one in the second or third round. If Gruden’s comments hold true this off-season, I expect to see a lot of focus on improving an anemic offense by adding a few playmakers to his favorite side of the football. 2019 NFL Draft Scenario #1:Rd 1:Drew LockQBMissouriRd 2:Paris CampbellWROhio St.Rd 3:T.J. PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh Steelers strong safety Morgan Burnett is just happy to be back on the field. The veteran safety will play Sunday at home against Cleveland after missing the previous four games with a groin injury.“It’s good to get back into the flow of things and get back into a normal work week James Conner Jersey ,” Burnett said Friday. “As a competitor, you want to be out there, you don’t want to miss anything, but I understand that comes with the game. This is a physical game, and you demand a lot from your body, but once it happened, being upset isn’t going to help you heal faster.”Burnett, in his ninth season, played in the Steelers’ first two games against Cleveland and Kansas City, but he has been out since Sept. 16 with his injury. This week was the first time Burnett fully practiced three straight days without any setback.“Everything felt good,” Burnett said. “Everything went well this week. I definitely feel prepared and ready. I’m just trying to take positive steps forward.”Burnett tried to practice before the Sept. 30 home game against Baltimore and the following week against Atlanta, but wasn’t able to return.“It wasn’t quite ready and my body made sure it let me know that,” Burnett said. “We went back to rehabbing and went from there. I just followed protocol, and I did what the trainers asked me to do to try and get back as quick as possible.”The 29-year-old Burnett spent his first eight seasons in Green Bay before signing a three-year, $14.5-million contract with the Steelers in the offseason. He started 102 games for the Packers and won a Super Bowl ring in 2011, when Green Bay beat Pittsburgh. The Steelers signed Burnett in hopes he could provide leadership to a young secondary group, but the veteran has spent most of his time in Pittsburgh watching from the sideline thanks to a steady stream of injuries. He missed most of training camp with a hamstring injury before his latest groin issue.“I think it’s your job as a professional to stay locked in,” Burnett said. “You can’t physically go out there, so you have to stay in tune mentally with the game plan.”Defensive coordinator Keith Butler is excited to have Burnett back in the fold.“We miss him and I’m glad he’s back,” Butler said. “I think Morgan gives us a little bit more opportunity to do some things that we haven’t done. I think he’ll help us.”Rookie safety Terrell Edmunds has started the last four games in place of Burnett. The Steelers’ first-round pick was supposed to spend his first season learning behind Burnett https://www.thesteelerslockerroom.com/authentic-terrell-edmunds-jersey , but he has been thrown into the mix with favorable reviews.Still, Edmunds is glad to see Burnett healthy again.“It’s definitely nice to have him back, it’s nice to have everybody back,” Edmunds said. “It’s just a good thing to have another leader in the secondary.”Burnett just wants to make an impression during his first season in Pittsburgh and put his injury struggles in the past.“It’s tough, but that just comes with the business,” Burnett said. “The only thing you can do is take it one day at a time and do all you can do to get back on the field.“I just want to be accountable as a teammate and do my job to the best of my ability.”NOTES: Starting right tackle Marcus Gilbert will miss Sunday’s game with a knee injury. Second-year lineman Matt Feiler will fill in and make his second start of the season at right tackle. Feiler also started the Steelers’ first win of the season Sept. 24 at Tampa Bay. Panthers defensive lineman Gerald McCoy won't allow himself to get overhyped when he lines up Thursday night against his former team, the Buccaneers — even though he has plenty of motivation. After nine full seasons in the NFL, McCoy said he knows better."I've been on teams where guys are playing their former team and the night before the game they're losing their minds; day of the game they're losing their minds," McCoy said. "It's like, 'Bro, relax. Just go play the game.'"He said a lot of those players didn't play well because of their emotions clouded their ability to focus on making plays.Still, McCoy admits he's eager to play the Buccaneers, a team that cut him in May after a nine-year stint where he was selected to six Pro Bowls, was an All-Pro and became the face of the franchise.McCoy's departure from Tampa Bay did not come without some bad feelings. There are still people at Buccaneers headquarters McCoy doesn't like, adding that they "know who they are."It all started when new Bucs coach Bruce Arians said during the offseason McCoy was "not as disruptive as he was four years ago." Arians ultimately released McCoy and, a few days later, signed free agent Ndamukong Suh to replace him — and promptly gave him McCoy's No. 93."At first, it bothered me, I can admit that," said McCoy Womens Terrell Edmunds Jersey , who now wears No. 93 in Carolina.McCoy let it be known publically he was disappointed over that decision, which drew the ire of former Buccaneers defensive tackle Warren Sapp. Sapp has been someone McCoy initially considered a mentor, and later "family.""You get measured by playoff wins," Sapp told the Tampa Bay Times in August. How many playoffs did you win? He never was in a playoff game. We were in nine. We won championships. ... You deserve something like this? Bad call, young fella."When asked this week if Sapp's comments hurt, McCoy simply shrugged his shoulders. The 31-year-old McCoy still plans to sign a one-day contract and retire as a member of the Buccaneers when he calls it quits. He said that has been prearranged with Bucs ownership. As for how he views his legacy in Tampa Bay, McCoy said "I don't know ... ask Warren Sapp."Yep, let the game begin.TOUGH MATCHUPTampa Bay is bracing for a big dose of Christian McCaffrey, who ran for 128 yards and two touchdowns and also had 10 receptions for 81 yards in the Panthers' opener.Arians called McCaffrey the best dual back threat in the NFL."I used to think it was David Johnson, but Christian's passed him up," Arians said. "As a receiver, he's a hell of a matchup problem, and as a runner, he's a great runner."Bucs defensive coordinator Todd Bowles agreed, saying "I don't think you can stop him with one guy. ... They are very talented across the board. We've just got to play disciplined football."WINSTON'S STRUGGLESBucs QB Jameis Winston became Tampa Bay's career passing leader last week. He also tossed three interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns in a 31-17 loss to San Francisco. Offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich expects the fifth-year pro, who threw for 249 yards and two touchdowns in a 24-17 victory over the Panthers late last season, to respond with a sharper performance Thursday night."That's what this league's all about. You can't have any hangovers, no carry-overs, so he's just got to stay locked in Terrell Edmunds Jersey White ," Leftwich said. " (begin preparation) the next day and get to rolling with this game being so quick."COMING ON STRONGArians believes one of the best things the Bucs can do to help Winston cut down on turnovers and realize his potential as the No. 1 overall pick from the 2015 draft is run the ball more effectively. With second-year pro Ronald Jones II leading the way, Tampa Bay rushed for 121 yards in last week's loss. Jones, coming off a disappointing rookie season, ran for 75 yards against the 49ers, finally showing signs of why he was selected in the second round of the 2018 draft. He was impressive, but apparently not good enough to crack the starting lineup. Peyton Barber, an undrafted free agent who led the team in rushing the past two years, will line up first against the Panthers."If Peyton gets a little tired, he will get (Jones) in there," Arians said. "And if he has the hot hand, he stays in there until he gets tired."LESS McCAFFREY?Panthers coordinator Norv Turner said he wanted to cut down on McCaffrey's reps, but not his touches this season. Well, McCaffrey not only got 29 touches in a Week 1 loss to the Rams but also played all 67 offensive plays. Coach Ron Rivera said the Panthers will need to think about limiting his reps moving forward, but quickly added "When he's playing the way he is, you want to keep the rhythm going."THE 3-4 DEFENSEBoth the Panthers and Buccaneers have moved to a 3-4 defense this season, which should make for an interesting matchup. Neither unit looked particularly invincible in the season opener with the Bucs giving up 31 points and the Panthers 30.

Merry Christmas https://www.raiderslockerroom.com/authentic-derek-carr-jersey , ya’ filthy animals! After compiling a defense-heavy mock draft last week, let’s take a look at what an offense-heavy mock could look like.We all know that Jon Gruden is an offense-first guy, so while using The Draft Network’s Mock Draft Simulator, I aimed to make some realistic selections that I could picture coming to fruition on draft day.As previously noted, there’s a massive gap between the Raiders fourth round pick and seventh round pick due to unknown conditions on a fifth-round pick the Bears might or might not be sending over, and the sixth-rounder that the team unwisely offloaded for about half a season of Trevor Davis. Please note that compensatory picks are not factored into the draft simulator yet, so the Raiders may be granted additional selections and their positioning from the fourth round on is likely to slide backwards. While I would have loved to trade back with the No. 18 to accrue some additional mid-round selections, that’s not allowed in the mock draft simulator.Round 1, Pick 14: Henry Ruggs III, Alabama WRHenry Ruggs III is one of those rare receivers that is both well-rounded and has blazing speed to take the top off a defense. He runs like a 4.2 player on the field and carries his pads well, but he’s also a technician. From the hand fighting off his release to the crispy routes to the way he stems up defensive backs, Ruggs enters the NFL about as pro-ready as it gets.At 6-foot-flat and 190 pounds, Ruggs doesn’t have an plus catch radius or a penchant for bodying up defensive backs, but the Raiders won’t need him to do that if he can consistently separate from defenders.Derek Carr has shown an unwillingness to throw to receivers that don’t have a few yards of separation at times, which contributes to his checkdown-happy style. With a guy like Ruggs getting open consistently on all parts of the field, Carr would feel more comfortable throwing deeper passes. Round 1, Pick 18: Dylan Moses, Alabama LBThe Raiders double up on Alabama players in the first round, filling their top two needs heading into the offseason.Dylan Moses is a physical freak who would’ve had a chance to go top ten had he not torn his ACL prior to the season. He’s physical, fast and shows keen instincts against the run and pass.At 6-foot-3, 235 pounds, Moses already has a build suitable for the Mike LB role in the Raiders defense. He would greatly improve their run defense at the second level with perhaps the best block destruction ability of anybody in the 2020 draft. Plus, his coverage chops ain’t too shabby either.Round 3, Pick 78: Anthony Gordon Derek Carr Jersey White , Washington State QBThis is a big-time wrinkle that differs from my first mock, with the Raiders selecting Anthony Gordon to come in and compete with Carr.Gordon is an intriguing prospect who grew up in Pacifica and played JuCo ball at City College of San Francisco before heading to Washington State. He’s got a big arm, a quick 3⁄4 release, and shows accuracy to all fields when in rhythm. Unlike Carr, Gordon loves to make the splash play and hit deep passes, which works well because he’s quite accurate on long balls. The most intriguing part of Gordon’s game which separates him from other mid-round quarterback prospects is his eye manipulation skills, which are advanced for someone with his lack of experience.Bringing in Gordon to compete with Carr would bring the best out of both players. And while a Gordon/Ruggs combination could be lethal, he shouldn’t be thrown into the fire right away as he transitions from Mike Leach’s Air-Raid scheme.Round 3, Pick 82: Solomon Kindley, Georgia iOLRichie Incognito has looked great, but there’s no escaping the fact that he’s already the oldest guard in the NFL. Gabe Jackson, meanwhile, has struggled this season while battling injury and could be a cap casualty.Solomon Kindley would fit into the Raiders desire to employ heavyweight maulers on the interior well. At 6-foot-4, 335 pounds, Kindley brings impressive power, a low center of gravity, and more mobility than you’d expect on reach blocks. The Raiders have proven that they want to invest in a strong offensive front, and Kindley would help them continue to fortify a front that has been one of the league’s best this season.Round 3, Pick 91: Joshua Uche, Michigan DEThe Raiders have some nice pieces along the defensive line at the moment, but they could definitely use a finishing piece.Joshua Uche would likely fill Benson Mayowa’s role as the sub-package pass rushing specialist. He’s got awesome bend and quickness around the edge and would make a great third banana to go along with Maxx Crosby and Clelin Ferrell.Uche isn’t powerful at the point of attack when defending the run, but his quickness allows him to get down the line in backside pursuit quite well. With a go-to, two-handed swipe move and a few pass rush counters in his arsenal, Uche is one of the top pass rushing specialists available in the 2020 draft class.Round 4 Antonio Brown Raiders Jersey , Pick 110: Trajan Bandy, Miami CBLamarcus Joyner has been playing out of position as the Raiders top nickel cornerback, and moving him back to his more natural safety spot could spark a major improvement out of both Joyner and the secondary as a whole.Trajan Bandy could step in and fill the role of starting nickel corner right away, despite a real chance that he’s available in the fourth round. Bandy is small, at 5-foot-9 and 186 pounds, but he plays so much bigger than that. He’s physical as a cover corner and when defending the run, attacking opposing ball carries with ferocity and determination. He’s got some short-area burst and a compact lower body that makes his backpedal look efficient and silky. At the least Bandy could improve the Raiders cornerback depth greatly, as he can play outside, but profiles better as a nickel going forward.Round 7, Pick 205: Lynn Bowden, Kentucky WRIf you’ve watched any Kentucky football this season, you know who Lynn Bowden is.If not, he’s wide receiver and all-purpose weapon who switched to quarterback in the middle of the season due to a rash of injuries at the position. In a draft with a ton of talent, Bowden is likely to get pushed to the backend of the draft. But in the seventh round, he’s quite valuable as long-term project. He’s tough, fast as hell, and has natural hands, and that trio of skills could make him one of the steals of the draft. In the short term, Bowden can help an offense with gadget plays, jet sweeps and screens, but his route running needs a lot of improvement if he’s going to become a consistent outside threat. He’d also be the perfect practice squad player for the Raiders, as he could mimic opposing quarterbacks, running backs, and wide receivers. NAPA Womens Bo Jackson Jersey , Calif. (AP) — After several suspensions, accusations of racism and bullying, and run-ins with police off the field, Richie Incognito didn’t know if he’d ever get another chance to play in the NFL despite being a four-time Pro Bowl guard.Incognito retired following the 2017 season to deal with his issues, He quickly realized he missed the game and began working to get back in shape so he could play again — if the opportunity arose. It took until this spring for the Oakland Raiders finally to give him that chance on what general manager Mike Mayock described as a one-year “prove-it deal” for Incognito to show he can thrive both as a player and a person.“It’s about redemption,” Incognito said Saturday following the first training camp practice in his first news conference since signing with Oakland in late May. “It’s about getting another opportunity. It’s about Mike Mayock, Jon Gruden and the Raiders’ organization giving me an opportunity. I want to make it right. I want to make it positive for everybody. I want to be come in here and contribute. I want to be a team leader. I want to rewrite the ending.”Incognito’s career has been filled with several highs, including his play on the field as a dominant blocker with the type of mean streak coaches often crave from their offensive linemen. But that nastiness often served as a detriment and Incognito acknowledges having many “dark days” along the way when he was unable to control his inner demons.Incognito was suspended multiple times in college; banned in the NFL for bullying teammate Jonathan Martin in Miami in 2013; accused of making racist slurs to Jacksonville defensive end Yannick Ngakoue during a playoff game in January 2018; and had multiple run-ins with police since he retired following the 2017 season. In May 2018, police in South Florida placed Incognito in a mental hospital after he allegedly threw weights and tennis balls at gym employees and another patron, and told officers the government was spying on him.Incognito was arrested in August 2018 in Arizona on charges he threatened to shoot employees of a funeral home. A police report showed officers later executed a search warrant on Incognito’s pickup truck and seized two Glocks, three rifles and a silencer for a handgun. He pleaded to disorderly conduct in that case in April and has been suspended two games for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy in a punishment the Raiders anticipated when they signed Incognito earlier this offseason.Mayock said the organization would have a plan to help Incognito. Incognito wouldn’t get into details into what he and the club were doing, but said he had a team of people both within and outside the organization to help him.“ how they could help me adjust,” Incognito said. “They were there with open arms. They’ve been great about it. We’ve been in constant communication, we have a team around me, and we’re just making sure I’m checking all the boxes and holding up my end of the bargain. That’s why it’s great. It’s great to get out here. I’ve checked all the boxes, done everything right and necessary to get out here and earn the opportunity to get back with the team.”Incognito’s ability on the field has helped him earn another chance. He made the Pro Bowl all three seasons in Buffalo from 2015-17 when he was considered a team leader. The Raiders are hoping to get that kind of production when he returns for Week 3; the 36-year-old Incognito is being counted on to replace Kelechi Osemele at left guard and help take pressure off second-year tackle Kolton Miller.Despite not playing all last season, Incognito impressed the Raiders in the offseason when he worked out with the team and has continued to do that at practice after he arrived. Coaches immediately put him in with the first-team unit.“I’m not far behind,” he said. “I feel like I’m still in good shape. I feel like I can still play with good technique and still play at a high level.”But that has never been the question around Incognito. Keeping his mind straight has been, and he hopes he’s in better position to do that now.“The big thing for me is just being man enough to ask for help when I need it,” he said. “For so many years, I’ve just tried to grit my teeth and work hard and kind of grind my way through this. You’ve obviously seen I’ve had my setbacks and dark days. But I’m focusing on those positive days and building some momentum to go right through the season.”

MSTShareTweetShareShareWhat do the Broncos do now at middle linebacker? What the Denver Broncos now do at middle linebacker is one of the key questions this offseason. With the news the Broncos will not exercise the contract option for Brandon Marshall, let the speculation begin on who will fill that spot. On Friday’s 1st & 10 @ 10 on Orange and Blue, Mike Klis joined the guys to talk about Marshall and what he meant to the team, but also that key question. As Klis noted, one of the key cogs of a Vic Fangio defense is an elite middle linebacker. Thus, if C.J. Mosley hits the open market and isn’t tagged, Klis said he will certainly be a target. The other way Denver could fill that middle linebacker spot is through the NFL Draft and Devin White (if he falls to No. 10). Whatever John Elway and the Broncos do at middle linebacker it will fun and interesting. Bonus listen MHR’s Adam Malnati talked with the guys about the Joe Flacco trade, and what it means now for free agency and the draft. When you look at the head-to-head record of the Broncos against the Cardinals, you’ll see that with just one exception, Denver has owned the Arizona/St. Louis/Chicago team known for wearing red. That one loss? You can credit it to the tragic season of 2010, but not to often vilified clown, Josh McDaniels. Although, McDaniels started 2010 as head coach, just 6 days before the match-up at University of Phoenix stadium the Broncos deactivated his keycard and took away his headset. With McDaniels gone and Kyle Orton inexplicably ensconced as the starter of the 3-10 Denver Broncos Joe Flacco Jersey White , head coaching duties were handed to running backs coach, Eric Studesville. Tim Tebow was still marinating on the bench and the rushing attack was anchored by Lance Ball and Knowshon Moreno. The 4-9 Arizona Cardinals weren’t having the greatest season themselves. This late-season game would be the first career start for their 3rd string quarterback, John Skelton. For all intents and purposes, this was one the Denver Broncos should have won. Instead, this one would go down as the first time in history the Cardinals beat the Denver Broncos. The Broncos took an early lead with a Steven Hauschka field goal (kicker Matt Prater didn’t play and would be placed on IR in the following weeks due to a nagging groin injury). Arizona answered with a Jay Feely field goal... but ol’ Jay was just getting warmed up. This is a game that I’m sure Feeley will never forget, because on this December day in Arizona, he would single-handedly beat the Denver Broncos. On a chip shot field goal attempt, Feely faked and ran 5-yards for the only touchdown of his career. He also kicked the extra point just moments later. It would be three more Jay Feely field goals before Denver could impotently respond with another Hauschka field goal. With just over 6:00 left in the 4th quarter and down 22-6, Cardinals running back Tim Hightower finally scored the game’s first offensive touchdown. After an exhausting day of getting their butt handed to them by a kicker, the Broncos got into the end zone on 1-yard Knowshon Moreno plunge. Time was running down and the Cardinals already had the game in-hand, but the juggernaut that was the 2010 Arizona Cardinals would not be stopped! Tim Hightower ripped off a 35-yard touchdown run with 3:00 to go in the 4th. Then, typical of the 2010 Denver Broncos, they couldn’t get out of their own way and just take the loss they had earned. To really demonstrate just how awful the team was, a Kyle Orton pass intended for Lance Ball was intercepted and returned 39-yards before being knocked loose by Ball Womens Courtland Sutton Jersey , only to have Cardinals defensive end Darnell Dockett recover and carry it the rest of the way for Arizona’s final touchdown (Jay Feely kicked the extra point). Final score, 43-13, Cardinals. This was the only time in Broncos history Denver has lost to the Cardinals. Denver scored 13-points and Cardinals kicker Jay Feely scored 22. Receivers Eric Decker and Eddie Royal fumbled, but the truly remarkable bit of trivia that came out of this game was Kyle Orton’s stat line. He threw 3 interceptions, was 19 of 41 attempts for just 166-yards, and lost a fumble. While I want to say that Thursday’s game against the Cardinals could never be as bad as that game back in 2010, I’m not convinced. Like Studesville, Vance Joseph won’t be retained in a head coaching capacity next year. Case Keenum, I would argue, is better than Orton, but their ability to score points and take command of a game are crushingly similar. Both the Cardinals and Broncos are reeling. Like the 2010 match-up, the Broncos should win with one, but they also should have beaten the Jets. There is a real chance that Denver could go out and allow the Cardinals to double their win total against the Broncos. Here’s hoping that doesn’t happen.

Washington didn’t have many healthy quarterbacks on the roster leading into the draft. But they have a bunch of former quarterbacks on staff https://www.theredskinslockerroom.com/authentic-terry-mclaurin-jersey , and along with the injured ones, plenty of mentors for first-rounder Dwayne Haskins. That’s why team president Bruce Allen was so upbeat about the situation Haskins is walking into, during an appearance on ESPN.“We’re going to try and get every player acclimated immediately,” Allen said, via the . “We do have to start out fast this year. We open with the Philadelphia Eagles and we’re going to have our best lineup on the field. As far as Dwayne, we have a great system and a great environment to develop a quarterback. Our offensive coordinator [Kevin O’Connell], our quarterbacks coach [Tim Rattay], our senior assistant [Matt Cavanaugh] all played quarterback in the NFL. Our head coach [Jay Gruden] was a quarterback, and of course we have Doug Williams in the building.“We think we have the perfect environment to nurture a young quarterback. And don’t forget, the secret ingredient, maybe, for Patrick Mahomes was Alex Smith. We’re pleased to have Alex and this group to help mentor a quarterback.”Smith isn’t expected to play this year after a gruesome broken leg last year, so he’ll be available to give advice.Washington traded for Case Keenum, and Colt McCoy is coming off multiple surgeries for a less-severe broken leg of his own, leaving a reasonably clear lane for Haskins to compete for and perhaps win the starting job. Kyle Shurmur, QBSchool: Vanderbilt | Conference: SECCollege Experience: Senior | Age: 22Height / Weight: 6-4 / 225 lbsProjected Draft Status: 3rd or 4th RoundNFL Comparison: Alex SmithCollege StatisticsPlayer OverviewKyle Shurmur is the son of current Giants Head Coach Pat Shurmur. Kyle, as you can imagine, grew up around football all his life. His dad was also the former Head Coach for the Cleveland Browns and the offensive coordinator for the Eagles, Rams, and Vikings. He’s had several other coaching titles in his career as well. He grew up going to the Manning’s passing camps and picked the brain of Donovan McNabb and Nick Foles. Kyle has gone on to have a very productive career at Vanderbilt. He isn’t talked about much at all in this QB class but its worth reminding people that he has already broken Jay Cutler’s all time TD record as well as his career passing yards record at Vanderbilt. A huge knock on Shurmur is that he has already earned the label of ‘game manager’ as a QB. The facts are that his production this season rivals fellow SEC QB Drew Lock who is projected to be at least a second round pick if not higher. Lock takes shots and they can end with well or not so well. Shurmur is much more reserved and strategic and prefers to work the easy stuff in the short and immediate parts of the field. It may not be exciting but its proved to be almost as effective. I refuse to peg him as a backup before he gets his chance to prove otherwise in the league but even if you (like myself) find the ‘game manager’ style of football incredibly boring there is no denying that there is value in it if he is surrounded by a good team. He could surprise in a starting role I think he could also be a very solid backup. StrengthsReally good size for the position. Has good height that teams look for and is solidly built.Evident that he scans the field for the best receiving option on a play. Is patient in delivering the football but also has a decent internal clock when under pressure. Takes the easy stuff underneath in the middle of the field and will take more shots in the 20-30 yard range when they present themselves. If something isn’t there he will throw it away. I think he has the potential to be a very good play action QB a la Kirk Cousins. He sells the fake well and has good mechanics and fundamentals on the run to get it downfield. Accuracy is good within the 35 yard range and has gotten better each year. Zip on throws is pretty good and he can also deliver the ball accurately and with touch when he needs to. Well liked by his coaches, teammates, and respected by defenses even with his more conservative style. Trusts his teammates to make plays and is not afraid to throw into tight windows if he feels he can lead his receiver. Going to impress teams with his composure, maturity, and knowledge of the game. WeaknessesDefinitely not a gunslinger I can’t see many scenarios based on Shurmur’s play right now that will tell me that he will be much better than a player like Alex Smith. A serviceable and safe starter who needs a good supporting cast and be entrenched in a system to elevate the team against top competition. Not a very mobile guy. When he has to take off and extend plays it isn’t that impressive. Didn’t have the best offensive line but can make some ill advised throws with pressure coming right up the middle. Labeled already as a ‘game manager’ and prefers to work the short / medium stuff. If you are expecting 60 yard bombs out of this kid he won’t be your cup of tea. Deep ball accuracy is lacking I saw a lot of balls when thrown over 40/45 yards that were just a bit off.Let’s see his work:More Kyle Shurmur videosGradeSize (out of 10) | Not just height/weight. Russell Wilson and Baker Mayfield would be a 6 or 7 here because they’re thickly built and take hits well.Grade: 8 | If we believe Shurmur’s reported height and weight at this point then he ticks this box well.Arm Talent (out of 10) | Arm Talent is mostly raw strength of the arm, but also ability to throw different types of balls (bullets, touch passes, etc.) and from different angles/platforms. Mahomes is a god at this -- 9 or 10 raw strength but also a magician from different arm angles. Pennington couldn’t throw 40 yards.Grade: 6.5 | I've seen Shurmer work the short and intermediate stuff with great proficiency where he struggles is on throws over 45 yards. The farthest I have seen him throw on tape is about ~50. He might be able to chuck it further but I don’t think I’ve seen it. He has nice velocity on his throws when he’s able to step into them and has thrown some floating beauties but its a matter of volume and consistency that got me to this grade. Accuracy (out of 15) | Pretty self-explanatory. One of the most important traits of a good QB. Ability to place the ball where they want on the receiver at all levels of the field. Also interception %.Grade: 10 | Shurmur has advanced leaps and bounds in his career regarding improving his completion percentage. He has gotten better every year of his career and set a career best this season with 64%. I think he can get even better. The big question will be his deep ball accuracy and how much that can improve. He had a pretty good TD to INT ratio this year as well with 3.83.Mobility (out of 10) | Not just straight line speed, but escapability and maneuverability in the pocket.Grade: 5 | He has good movement on rollouts Montez Sweat Jersey , bootlegs, play-actions etc but when Shurmur tries to extend a play it isn’t exactly pretty and he doesn’t appear very athletic. If the defense surrounds him the odds are against him that he will pull a Houdini. Mental Processing (out of 15) | Ability to read defenses, make pre-snap adjustments, and go through progressions after the ball is snapped to make decisions quickly. Peyton and Brady are examples of coaches on the field. Grade: 11 | The ability to read a defense, adjust his protection, adjust the play before the snap, and go through his progressions are what place Shurmur above a lot of his counterparts and it’s why I believe he’ll go higher than some might expect (along with a weak QB class). He is advanced is this area and he plays really smart football. Mechanics (out of 10) | Footwork, delivery, throwing motion, release. Impacts accuracy, arm strength, and ability to throw in a bad pocket. I’d say this is important for longevity and consistency.Grade: 8 | Overall I think Shumur has great mechanics being the son of a head coach and former offensive coordinator certainly helped him polish a lot of things. I think he can improve how he moves and throws the ball when under pressure but otherwise everything is solid. Leadership (out of 15) | Hard to quantify, but basically, do they make the players around them better? Leadership comes in different styles, not just rah-rah guys, but leadership by example as well. For college evaluation, what do their coaches and teammates say about them, or do they avoid mentioning leadership? What do opposing coaches say about them? Grade: 12 | Being a son of a NFL coach also prepares you for what to say to the media during interviews and press conference. Shurmur talks like a seasoned veteran and consummate professional. Vanderbilt certainly has not been regarded as a top program in the SEC for some time but I do believe Shurmur took the ability and energy he had and not only elevated his play but helped elevate the offense he was a part of during his time. He is respected by his opponents as well for not making mistakes and for being patient and taking care of the weaknesses exposed by the defense. Clutch (out of 15) | Another relatively subjective metric, but extremely important. Do they fold under pressure or can they rally their team to a comeback? Grade: 9 | I have no idea if Vanderbilt had a lot of opportunities for 4th quarter comebacks during Shurmur’s tenure but I do know when he is under pressure he does a good job of hanging tight and trying to deliver a catchable football to move the chains. I know that he has 3 consecutive wins over a much more acclaimed Tennessee team and that’s HUGE for fans of Vanderbilt and a big deal in Nashville. Total: 69.5/100How He Would Fit On interesting QB prospect to write about because of the similarities I saw compared to Alex Smith. With Smith’s career in jeopardy and a certain level of uncertainty at the QB position going into next season it would behoove the Redskins to draft a player at the position if only to compete for the backup role and add depth. Colt McCoy is not a starter, Josh Johnson is not a starter, Mark Sanchez is not a starter or a backup, we don’t know if Shurmur is not a starter yet. Because of his similarities to Smith I think he would fit a lot of the West Coast passing concepts Gruden incorporates into his offense with exception to some of the mobile stuff which is rarely incorporated anyway as we saw this year. He’ll have to adjust to game speed of course but I think he would fare decently with good protection, a running game, and a solid TE / RB to throw to. The upside Shurmur has is intriguing in part because you can tell he’s still getting better especially with his accuracy. He deep stuff needs work so it will be interesting how much his touch, accuracy, and velocity can be improved there. It may be marginal but like Alex Smith Shurmur could potentially be a very safe and efficient starting QB on certain teams in the league including the Redskins. That’s exactly what the Redskins need until they ‘find their guy’ because Smith will not be ready to start the season and might never play again.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Vance McDonald insists he wasn’t sending some sort of message when the Pittsburgh Steelers tight end extended his right arm toward Tampa Bay’s Chris Conte and jammed the Buccaneers defensive back into the turf on Monday night. It was a show of force that sprung McDonald for a 75-yard touchdown reception and seemed to snap the two-time defending AFC North champions out of an early funk that threatened to swallow their season whole.“Just playing big Womens T. J. Watt Jersey ,” McDonald said after Pittsburgh held on for a 30-27 victory. “It was frustrating. I was (injured) in training camp, so this was kind of just a ‘Welcome Back’ almost.'”McDonald was talking about himself. He might as well have been talking about the Steelers, too. While there remains plenty of issues — particularly when it comes to penalties and pass defense — Pittsburgh (1-1-1) played with a sense of urgency it lacked at times during a maddening opening two weeks in which the Steelers frittered away a 14-point fourth-quarter lead in Cleveland before getting overwhelmed by Kansas City.McDonald’s highly “GIF-able” swat of Conte provided a desperately needed spark. The defense put a sudden if brief halt to Tampa Bay quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick’s hot streak by forcing a turnover on four consecutive possessions.Ben Roethlisberger did the rest while throwing for 353 yards and three scores.“That was a total team win, all the phases, and that’s what Steeler football is about,” Roethlisberger said.Even if anything close to a “clean” game remains elusive. Pittsburgh was flagged 13 times for 155 yards, the defense gave up 411 yards passing and kicker Chris Boswell missed two more kicks.Throw in some anxious moments in the fourth quarter after the Buccaneers trimmed a 20-point deficit to three and the Steelers understand they’re far from a finished product heading into a Sunday night visit by Baltimore (2-1).Still, considering all the off-the-field issues surrounding the team in recent weeks — from wide receiver Antonio Brown’s erratic behavior to running back Le’Veon Bell’s extended absence while waiting to sign his franchise tag — they will take it.“It was big,” cornerback Joe Haden said. “We haven’t started the season (anywhere) like we expected to, but we just wanted to start getting our first win, get that thing rolling.”Pittsburgh created just two turnovers over the first two weeks, but produced four against the Buccaneers thanks to three interceptions — including a pick-6 by linebacker Bud Dupree — and a fumble recovery. They’re the kind of “splash” plays coach Mike Tomlin covets JuJu Smith-Schuster Jersey White , though he’s still concerned about the massive amounts of yardage his team continues to give up.Four different Buccaneers had at least one reception of 20 yards or more, and Fitzpatrick became the first player in NFL history to top 400 yards three consecutive weeks. While Haden’s return from a hamstring issue that kept him out against Kansas City settled one cornerback spot, the other remains a problem. Artie Burns, Coty Sensabaugh and Cam Sutton all saw playing time opposite Haden, and all three struggled.“We’re going to continue to play a number of people until someone distinguishes themselves,” Tomlin said Tuesday. The new-look Ravens figure to continue to test Pittsburgh’s revamped secondary when they visit Heinz Field.Tomlin understands his team can’t make every play. What he’d like to see, however, is the Steelers stop beating themselves.Pittsburgh’s 37 penalties are easily tops in the NFL, nine more than Buffalo. Though Tomlin attributed some of the mistakes to the emotions of playing a pivotal game so early in the year, he allowed “we’ve got to play cleaner, got to play smarter.”Tomlin declined to take a shot at the officiating, pointing out that in each of Pittsburgh’s three games both teams were highly penalized. He admitted the number of flags — the Steelers and Buccaneers combined for 22 on Monday night — might be “worrisome” to those watching at home because the penalties make it difficult for the game to develop any sense of rhythm.“It probably wasn’t a fun game to watch https://www.thesteelerslockerroom.com/authentic-juju-smith-schuster-jersey ,” Tomlin said. That doesn’t mean it wasn’t a fun game to win, if only because it turned the attention back to football and not everything else.“We always say winning cures a lot of things, but I still think the biggest issue, if you will, was outside the locker room, people perceiving different things,” Roethlisberger said.“Not saying we don’t have issues, all teams have issues and there’s different things going on, but I think it was a little bigger than it really is.”Then the 15-year veteran paused ever so briefly before adding, “was.”NOTES: Tomlin said there’s a chance RG David DeCastro (hand), RT Marcus Gilbert (hamstring) and S Morgan Burnett (groin) — all of whom sat out against the Buccaneers — could play against Baltimore. … Tomlin declined to address reports the team is listening to trade offers for Bell. “I’m not talking Le’Veon,” Tomlin said. “I’m just not. They want him to be part of this team. But then you do things that are irrational and we try to sit up here and explain irrational moves and the things and actions that he does and try to defend him Dalton Risner Jersey , it’s almost impossible to do. And so you find yourself in a situation where as a player, as a team, you go in – as the captains did today – and talk to Jon Gruden and say whatever you decide to do, because it was so bad, because of what happened to Mike Mayock and what happened on the field was so bad, they’re fine with whatever they decide. The players are fine with whatever happens.”The Raiders with Brown have been a continual soap opera throughout the offseason. Brown accidentally froze his feet in a cryotherapy mishap, refused to practice and launched a grievance against the NFL because he couldn’t wear the helmet he wanted to wear, skipped a team walkthrough ahead of a preseason game in Winnipeg and then launched into a tirade against G.M. fines against him for his repeated transgressions after Mayock made it clear Brown needed to be “all in or all out.”The Raiders have made it known they are heavily considering suspending Brown over his actions, though that suspension has not been handed down yet. If it ultimately is, it could set the stage for the Raiders trying to recoup over $29 million in money guaranteed to Brown in the contract he signed with the team this spring.David’s relationship with his brother makes his comments about the ongoing Raiders saga compelling. If the locker room is getting as equally tired of Brown’s conduct as the front office is, it could make it difficult for the relationship to continue.“The players are fine with whatever happens,” Carr continued. “They would love to have Antonio Brown back. They would love to have him back, but there’s a culture they’re trying to establish in Oakland and they’re trying to do things the right way and there’s one guy that’s kind of holding them up right now. And that can’t be the case and those guys collectively went into Jon Gruden and said we’re going to make sure that we’re with you no matter what you decide to do.“Right now they don’t expect to have him. He’s not going to play Monday night. He’s not playing Monday night as far as the players are concerned, as far as Derek is concerned, they’re not going to have Antonio Brown for the Monday night football game. When it comes to keeping up with the Joneses https://www.theredskinslockerroom.com/authentic-terry-mclaurin-jersey , Daniel Snyder continues to fall short. And the competition regarding which man has the biggest five-letter thing (yacht, or otherwise) has caught the attention of one of the umpteen candidates for the Democratic nomination for the Presidency in 2020.Elizabeth Warren has taken to Twitter to call out the Washington owner for his purchase of a very big boat.“This billionaire NFL owner just paid $100M for a ‘superyacht’ with its own iMax theater,” Warren said. “I’m pretty sure he can pay my new <s>#</s>UltraMillionaireTax to help the millions of yacht-less Americans struggling with student loan debt.”The Senator from Massachusetts would surely feel the same way about the new superyacht purchased by Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, whose new boat cost a whopping $250 million.Warren wants, on top of all other taxes, a two-percent surcharge to be imposed on personal fortunes of $50 million or more, with the number moving to three percent at $1 billion. Warren recently tried to justify the plan in an appearance on MSNBC, essentially arguing that someone with $50 million in the bank and $50,000 in annual income pays the same amount of taxes as someone with $50 in the bank and $50,000 in annual income. But anyone with a fortune of $50 million and an interest rate of only three percent (someone with $50 million can do much better than that) has an income of $1.5 million per year, and pays the taxes on it.Although I’ll never have $50 million much less $1 billion (but I’d would welcome either development), the idea of being taxed at every step of the earning process and then to be taxed again on the accumulated net income on which taxes have already been paid seems unfair, no matter how much money someone acquires. And if the argument is (as it appears to be) that much of those fortunes are held not by the people who earned the money but their descendants Montez Sweat Jersey , the estate tax should take care of that concern.Of course, none of this will matter as candidates in an already crowded field will try to find a foothold in the hopes of emerging as the eventual challenger to the incumbent Commander-in-Chief. Mattison did that this past season rushing for over 1,400 yards and piling up 17 touchdowns on the ground. Mattison’s production this season pretty much carried the Broncos to their second consecutive Mountain West title game appearance. A native of San Bernardino, California Mattison was a 3-star recruit coming out of high school he committed to Boise State one day after Damarea Crockett (Missouri) de-commited from the program. Mattison was an excellent student coming out of high school and sported a 4.8 GPA, in addition to winning All-Mountain West First Team honors, Mattison was also awarded Academic All-Mountain West honors twice during his college career. Mattison will now focus on taking his talent and smarts to the NFL in hopes of becoming a significant part of a team’s running back rotation and potentially a workhorse in the right situation. StrengthsGood size, strength, power, and vision for the position.Mattison shows good patience waiting for his blockers to create rushing lanes for him. His vision is good as he does a good job identifying rushing lanes even when they are not ideal. Once he sees it he lowers his pads and goes full speed ahead.Grinder player and workhorse type who’s best games came when he got over 26 carriers. Wears defenses down during the course of the game with his physical style. Grinds out tough yards and is especially effective in the red zone. Shows some pretty decent short area burst and quickness that helps him avoid defenders. Reliable ball carrier with only one fumble on 300+ carries this year.Competitive as a pass blocker. WeaknessesBelow average athleticism and speed for the position despite having scored well in the broad jump. You can see a little explosion but not enough that allows him to pull away from the pack or show the kind of elusiveness and quickness you want at the position. Takes a few paces to get up to speed and can get caught behind the line of scrimmage especially when trying to change direction. Doesn’t have that next gear when it comes to speed and acceleration and won’t elude or outrun many in the open field. Contact balance isn’t want you might expect out of a guy his size goes down relatively easy. though he has not missed any time. Medicals came back clear at the combine to my knowledge but something to keep in mind.Let’s see his work:More Alexander Mattison videosHow He Would Fit On The RedskinsBy now I’ve written too many words about how the Redskins still need depth at the running back position. The position is not nearly as strong as some people project - at least not in its current state and I would like to remind everyone that re-signing Adrian Peterson and a 100% healthy Guice is not a given. The Redskins seem to like these bruiser types and Mattison certainly can come in and compete with Semaje Perine who is actually under contract unlike Byron Marshall and Rob Kelley. Mattison does not have the desired athleticism to start at the position but he certainly bring a lot of value as part of a Guice and Thompson rotation. Mattison is a reliable ball carrier and despite his past injuries has been available on the field. He could help lighten the load of the other guys while showing his worth as a pass protector and someone who can get those tough yards and find success in the red zone. While I still think he probably functions best as a guy who can get at least a certain number of carries I think coaching at the next level can help him make his movements more efficient so that he can make the most out of the more limited opportunities he would get. As a late third day pick I can see the upside and think he’ll have the talent and skills to claim a roster spot and get some carries his rookie season.

We now can be assured of one more thing in life https://www.raiderslockerroom.com/authentic-derek-carr-jersey , and that’s that everything is relative.Either that or after seven years, Vontaze Burfict found his spiritual home. The veteran linebacker, who stacked up suspensions and fines like tackles with the Bengals, took a shot at his former team while talking about the Raiders’ upcoming “Hard Knocks” appearance.“I just think it’s exciting for people to see what type of team we have because the team chemistry we have is just amazing,” Burfict told the . “This is my second team, but it’s the first time I’ve had a team like this and everybody gets along. It doesn’t matter what type of day it is. We’re all here to see each other get better and motivate each other. We’ve got a lot of characters, in a good way.”That must be it, that Burfict has just found his personal island of the misfit toys, a place where all the oddballs are just like him. What the Bengals might have lacked in personality to suit him Derek Carr Jersey White , they made up for in actual football success, having won 22 more games over the last seven years (62-50 to Oakland’s 40-72) than his new ideal of what an organization is supposed to look like. ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) — Brandon LaFell hasn’t had much sleep since signing with the Oakland Raiders.Out of a job for more than a month after being let go in a somewhat surprising move by the Cincinnati Bengals, LaFell has been too busy trying to learn Jon Gruden’s complex and wordy offense in hopes of being ready to play in next week’s season opener.“It’s a lot going on right now,” LaFell said Wednesday. “Right now for me it’s just leaving everything from Cincinnati out of my head and trying to refresh things with everything I’m learning now. A lot of the terminology is somewhat the same. I’ve grasped some of the same concept so far but it’s a lot right now.”That LaFell is in Oakland is a little mystifying. He signed a $9 million, two-year extension with the Bengals in 2017 and received a $1.25 million roster bonus in March. The Raiders didn’t seem to have much need for another receiver either after signing free agent Jordy Nelson and trading a third-round pick to Pittsburgh for Martavis Bryant. It all changed quickly for both sides.Cincinnati coach Marvin Lewis was quoted as saying LaFell was feeling the heat in training camp from some of the Bengals’ younger receivers. LaFell responded by asking for his release, which the team did on Aug. 2.Coupled with Oakland’s decision to release Bryant during final roster cutdowns, it created an opening on the Raiders for LaFell.“He’s a good player,” Gruden said. “He has played multiple roles and played well when he’s played. We think he can come in and get ready quickly to make a contribution. He’s got size that we like Antonio Brown Raiders Jersey , he’s an excellent blocker. He’s going to give us some versatility and depth, which we need.”The well-traveled LaFell has a resume that was certainly attractive to the Raiders.A third-round pick by Carolina in 2010, LaFell caught a career-high 74 passes for 953 yards and seven touchdowns and won a Super Bowl with New England following the 2014 season.Over the past two years in Cincinnati LaFell caught 116 passes for 1,410 yards and nine touchdowns.“ Brady when I was in New York,” Raiders safety Marcus Gilchrist said. “Crafty guy, big guy, can run for his size and can go up and get the ball. Can play in the slot, can play outside. You need a guy like that.”LaFell arrived in Oakland late and spent his first practice on the scout team. He spent Wednesday’s workout backing up Nelson.“It is crazy right now Womens Bo Jackson Jersey ,” LaFell said. “Luckily my receivers coach (Edgar Bennett) said for the first couple of days just learn the X so I’ll be the outside receiver and rotating with Jordy whenever he gets tired. Hopefully, these first two weeks I can stay at X and just focus on learning that X spot right now and as the season goes on start moving me around.”Bryant was let go, in part, because of his lack of versatility in Gruden’s offense. That doesn’t appear to be an issue for LaFell.“I’ve always felt like the more spots I knew, the faster I can play and the more time I can stay on the field,” he said “A lot of guys are going to get tired and need to check out or check in here and there so the more spots I know I don’t have to leave the game. I can just slide over, slide from outside to inside.”__

  • News reports.Keenum got a reworked contractDateTue Dec 31, 2019 1:24 pm

Washington didn’t have to give up much to get quarterback Case Keenum. It sent a sixth-rounder in 2020 to Denver Joe Flacco Jersey White , with Washington getting the Broncos’ seventh-rounder in 2020, Mike Klis of Denver’s 9, with the Broncos paying him a $500,000 restructure bonus as well as $3.5 million of his $7 million guaranteed salary, according to Klis. Washington will pay the other $3.5 million of Keenum’s guarantee.Keenum was scheduled to make $18 million in base salary this season. The deal becomes official Wednesday when the league year begins.Keenum, 31, will compete with Colt McCoy for the starting job in Washington. He became expendable in Denver after the Broncos acquired Joe Flacco in a trade with Baltimore. Keenum spent only one season with the Broncos Womens Courtland Sutton Jersey , going 6-10 with 18 touchdowns, 15 interceptions and an 81.2 passer rating. Tim Tebow’s baseball season is done, ended prematurely by injury for a second consecutive season, MLB.com reports. The Mets’ minor leaguer lacerated a finger on his left hand while fielding a ball in the outfield last month and required eight stitches. In 77 games at Triple-A Syracuse, Tebow batted .163/.240/.255. He struck out 98 times in 264 plate appearances and had four home runs and 19 RBI.The former Heisman Trophy winner missed the final two-plus months of last season with a broken bone in his right hand, which required surgery. If Tebow has any thoughts of a return to football, with the XFL starting up in the spring Womens Von Miller Jersey , he has given the Mets “no indication he intends to stop playing” baseball, according to MLB.com.The Mets new General Manager, Brodie Van Wagenen, was Tebow’s agent before leaving CAA to join the Mets.Tebow turns 32 next week.

  • With not a lot left for our team to play for Womens Phillip Lindsay Jersey , Broncos fans are starting to eye the looming off-season en masse. And while the search for a new head coach will, hopefully, headline the early weeks of said offseason, the quarterback question will undoubtedly rear its ugly head yet again after a sub-par season from Case Keenum. So let’s examine some low-hanging fruit and see it for the rotten apple it is.A name that you’ll hear a lot this offseason is that of Joe Flacco, who will likely be in need of a new home since the future has clearly arrived in Baltimore in the form of Lamar Jackson. Broncos Country, don’t fall for the fool’s gold. Bringing in Flacco would solve no problems for this team. Why not, you ask? Let’s take a look.General PerformanceQB rating is a good place to start. It’s definitely no be-all, end-all argument for or against any QB, but it’s an okay measure of overall QB performance that’s good enough for a high-level view. So the good news first: Joe Flacco posted his highest QB rating since 2014 this season. The bad news? It was a pretty sad mark of just 84.2, good for just 29th among QBs who’ve thrown 100+ passes this season. Though he did beat 30th ranked Case Keenum’s 82.1 (though that can still change). In a season when “Top 10 QB” might as well be synonymous with a 100+ QB rating, that’s unacceptable. And that’s pretty much been the story with Flacco for quite a while now, honestly. Even his 2014 QB rating of 91.0, the 2nd highest of his career, ranked a tepid 17th in the NFL that year. If he’d put that number up in 2018, it would fall to 24th. And did I mention that Flacco’s career QB rating is 84.1?Photo by Joe Robbins/Getty ImagesLet’s examine some other basic performance & production numbers for Flacco over the last 5 years:His completion rate rose from 62.1% in 2014 to 64.4% in 2015, and has held steady in the 64.1%-64.9% range ever since. He threw 27 TDs vs 12 Ints in 2014, but has thrown 64 TDs vs 46 Ints since then.He hasn’t led a 4th quarter comeback or a game-winning drive since Week 3 of 2016 vs the Jacksonville Jaguars. So not in his last 38 games, which includes 14 one-score losses.DYARHow about a little more of an advanced metric from the folks over at Football Outsiders? Their DVOA stat is more commonly cited, but DYAR is more QB-specific. DYAR, or Defense-adjusted Yards Above Replacement, “gives the value of the quarterback ‘s performance compared to replacement level, adjusted for situation and opponent and then translated into yardage.” So higher is better & negative means your QB is actively hurting your team. Take a look at Flacco’s DYAR over the last 5 years, compared to several other Broncos QBs past and present and contrasted against an actual elite QB in Drew Brees for good measure. It’s not a very pretty picture regarding Broncos QBs, is it? But we’ll spend plenty of time this offseason discussing our team’s, and our GM’s, struggles in that regard. Today’s discussion is in hopes that we won’t open another new chapter in our book of QB purgatory. Bringing in Joe Flacco, who’s ranked 27th John Elway Jersey White , 30th, & 32nd in DYAR from 2015 through 2017 among QBs with 200+ pass attempts, would be that next bad chapter. That Price TagIf they can somehow swing it, I’m sure the Baltimore Ravens would love to move on from Joe Flacco via a trade. Any team would prefer to get something back instead of nothing, after all, and Flacco will cost Baltimore at least $16M in dead money regardless. The problem with that is that Flacco’s 3 year, $22M/year extension, signed in 2016, is a severely back-loaded deal. In addition to the remaining $16M of signing bonus the Ravens will eat, Flacco’s $6M 2017 salary doubled to $12M this year, and will continue ballooning in the final 3 years of the deal: to $18.5M in 2019, $20.25M in 2020, & $24.25M in 2021.That $18.5M salary in 2019 isn’t so bad for a veteran starting QB these days, but the Broncos will already be eating at least a $3M cap hit from Case Keenum- and that’s only if they manage to trade him away in turn. So that’s $21.5M of the cap dedicated to bad QBs, at minimum, if we want to trade Keenum out for Flacco. And if we traded for Flacco & had to cut Keenum, that hit balloons to $28.5M for the two combined. No, thank you!Alternatively, the Ravens could end up cutting Flacco. Though personally I think they’d wait and roll with him as their backup for 2019 before moving him the next offseason rather than cut him this offseason. But if they did, it’d be up to the market... and, frankly, given the level of stupidity involved in NFL QB contracts in recent years and Flacco’s 163 games of starting experience? His price would only go up, as ridiculous as that is.Reality CheckOn the scale of free agent QB signings, from incredible (Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, etc) to incredibly stupid (Brock Osweiler, <insert pre-Mayfield Browns QB of your choice>) Womens Royce Freeman Jersey , you tell me where Flacco would rate. But before you do, consider all of the above and then consider this: He just lost his job to a rookie QB who’s completing just 58.9% of his passes & who has thrown just 5 TDs vs 3 Interceptions in 5 games as the starter. And who has rushed the football 86 times in those 5 games for 427 yards vs 731 yards gained by passing. That’s 146 passing yards per game. This in a league where increasingly QB-friendly, passing-friendly rules have 34 different QBs with 100+ pass attempts completing 60%+ of their passes, and 37 different QBs in the same group are throwing for over 150 yards per game (and 19 are throwing for 250+ yards per game). And even in that environment Lamar Jackson, whose best weapons at the moment are his legs, is a better start at QB than Joe Flacco. If there’s a solution to the Broncos’ quarterback woes this offseason, it’s not Joe Flacco. He’ll cost too much, he’s barely an upgrade on Keenum (if at all), and frankly he’s just not a good starting NFL quarterback and hasn’t been for a long time. By all means, keep looking for solutions & debating their relative merits. Just, please, for my sanity and your own: say “No!” to Flacco. ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — By his conservative count, Broncos rookie receiver Juwann Winfree viewed his game-winning tip and toe-drag touchdown against Atlanta in the Hall of Fame Game about 100 times.Granted, it was one catch in a preseason game. But that one reception told Winfree plenty — he could hold his own on this level after ACL and ankle injuries limited his playing time at the University of Colorado.“I saw what’s possible,” Winfree said Monday after a practice that featured a skirmish between wideouts Courtland Sutton and Emmanuel Sanders. “It’s possible I can help contribute and possible I can do this at the highest level. That catch lets me know I do belong here.”The acrobatic catch was the picture of concentration as rookie QB Brett Rypien’s pass was batted into the air by a Falcons defensive back in the end zone. Winfree spun around to track it and hauled it in while dragging his feet with 1:26 remaining to give Denver a 14-10 win in the NFL’s preseason opener. That play illustrates why Pro Bowl cornerback Chris Harris Jr. stays on Winfree in practice. Harris sees the big-play potential in the receiver who wears No. 15.“He’s just strong. He’s a strong rookie,” Harris said. “You don’t see a lot of rookies like that.”Being a rookie, though, Winfree may be prone to lapses in concentration. Harris has that covered.“Some days they might want to take it in and don’t want to bring that full effort in,” Harris said. “But I am definitely staying on ’15’ because he has a lot of talent. He can definitely help us.”Denver thought highly enough of Winfree to trade up in the sixth round to take him. That caught Winfree a little by surprise; he was hearing the Vikings would use one of their sixth-round picks on him.“That’s huge for me the Broncos had that much confidence in me,” Winfree said. “Every time I’m out here, I think about that and try to prove to them why I should be out here.”His college career took a winding route. After playing sparingly at Maryland as a freshman, Winfree spent a year at Coffeyville Community College in Kansas before showing up at Colorado. Then, the injuries hit. A torn ACL during camp in 2016 sidelined him for the season. Last season, he suffered a high ankle sprain at Nebraska that kept him out for a month. In two seasons with the Buffaloes, the 6-foot-3, 215-pound Winfree caught 49 passes for 649 yards and four touchdowns. His best game was on Nov. 11 Courtland Sutton Jersey , 2017, against Southern California when he caught five passes for 163 yards and two scores. The missed games due to injuries were “super frustrating,” he said. “The more games, the more experience, you feel more comfortable.“I’ve got to catch up,” Winfree added. “But my whole life has kind of been catching up. Now I’m here trying to catch up with the veterans.”The Broncos have quite a stable of receivers, with Sanders, Sutton and DaeSean Hamilton the locks to make the team. River Cracraft, Steven Dunbar Jr., Trinity Benson, Brendan Langley, Kelvin McKnight and Nick Williams.“I’m a playmaker,” said Winfree, who dealt with a leg ailment early in camp. “Wherever I’m at, special teams, receiver, blocking, I’m just trying to make plays. You’re going to get a selfless player.”Sometimes, the moment seems almost surreal for Winfree. Like catching passes from quarterback Joe Flacco. Or hauling in a reception while Harris was covering him (it happened during organized training activities). Or that winning reception in the inaugural preseason game.“I’m happy I made (the catch) and excited for the future,” Winfree said. “But that’s one game. It’s preseason. Every week, I’ve got to keep adding on and keep adding on, keep showing why I deserve to be here and keep showing why I can help us win.”Notes: ILB Josey Jewell left practice with an unspecified injury. “He kind of tweaked his side a little bit,” Broncos coach Vic Fangio said. … Fangio hasn’t decided if rookie QB Drew Lock will follow Joe Flacco in Thursday’s game at Seattle. … Broncos DB Kareem Jackson intercepted two passes in drills. … The Broncos called a team meeting shortly after Sutton and Sanders got into a scuffle. “Can’t happen,” Fangio said. “Shouldn’t happen.”
